PLANS FOR THE FUTURE

We hope to foster a greater sense of community through better communitcation and outreach. So as I build this site and other community memebers get together to work towards our goals let me just share what we've all brainstormed so far:

Teaming up with Dekalb Beautification to maintain the creek-

There's been a lot of illegal dumping into the creek and so far a handful of neighbors have been paying to recycle and cleanup all that stuff on their own. We're coordinating with the county to get some support. Basically volunteers would do the work and then the county would come and haul the trash away. We'd love to get more people together to help out. Information like this will be posted on this site.

Free ivy cutting-

English ivy is choking out our trees! thankfully its a relatively easy thing to fix; cutting a 2 ft section at the bottom of the tree will kill the ivy in the tree. There are talks of having a team of volunteers go home to home and cut people's ivy for FREE. We're thinking of having a sign up form on this site where people who are interested can list their address and on a given day simply expect a roving team of neighbors to go into their backyards and handle the problem!

More inclusivity-

We understand that our neighborhood is super diverse and in the past I (at least) feel like that diversity has not been taken into account. For instance if I had the ability to toggle the language settings on this website that would be the first thing I did but... moving forward we're going to focus on making sure to include as many people as we can. We're open to suggestions on what we can do to make that happen.

We have a pool! and volleyball court!

In addition to hopefully getting more folks out to the pool we are working hard to spruce up the pool and pavilion area. Big things are coming this year! Maybe we might even start a Dunaire Badminton team?

Neighborhood garden?

Did you know we used to have a neighborhood garden on Cheviot? Getting it restarted is the type of thing we'd love to discuss at the Civic Association meetings held every second Tuesday of the month.......
